Kohl'sThis Back-to-School Adventure with Disney's DESCENDANTS is brought to you by Kohl's -

Millions of families entered the world of Disney's DESCENDANTS this summer, marking one of the biggest debuts in history for a Disney Channel original movie. Having covered the film extensively here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine, it's pretty exciting to see The Rock Daughters™ becoming fully-immersed in the world of Auradon Prep - and with a new fashion assortment released as part of the Disney D-Signed Collection at Kohl's, it all leads us perfectly into Back-to-School

PEANUTS Brand AmbassadorWith Back-to-School Season in full-effect, there's a lot of choices out there in terms of Pop Culture Styling, and this year Hanna Andersson has a full line of Backpacks and Lunch Bags featuring some of our favorite characters. The Hannah & Friends Collection features FROZEN, STAR WARS and showcased here, PEANUTS. For the latter, as a Brand Ambassador for Snoopy and the Peanuts gang, the folks at Hanna Andersson sent one of their new backpacks for my oldest daughter (though my youngest is now eyeing the STAR WARS "Silhouettes" backpack for herself) in the Charlie Brown & Friends Design (also available: Snoopy & Woodstock). While Charles M. Schulz' iconic creations are already a big deal here at Rock Father HQ, you can be sure that they'll be a big deal when 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios release THE PEANUTS MOVIE into theaters on November 6th. Get ahead of the game now!

I love a lot of different shoes, by VANS are hands-down my favorite brand, period. Add into the mix their collaborative efforts with bands (SLAYER, METALLICA, KISS, IRON MAIDEN, etc.) and brands (STAR WARS, DISNEY) and it's stuff-I-love overload. Coming off the heat of their VANS x STAR WARS Collection (a line that I have a couple different pairs of), VANS x Disney brings forth some new shoes for the whole family, and they're loaded with characters that generations have known and loved - Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Minnie, Pluto and more. There's accessories, too (I almost just bought some Donald socks), and to celebrate the release, Mickey himself just made an appearance at the Vans US Open of Surfing. Check out some photos by Mitch Tomlinson below...

More than five years into my gig as a parent, every day is still an incredible thing as my wife and I watch our girls learn and grow, while embracing both their creative side and thirst for adventure. We do a lot of arts and crafts here at Rock Father HQ, all of which reflect our girls' diverse interests. We've gone full-blown Royal, making countless Princess Wands and Tiaras... have gone to Outer Space with planets and spacecraft... have worked with wax, paper, felt, glue and a ton of glitter over the years. Last week, during one of our school-canceling "cold days" (not a "snow day," but a -40° windchill) my oldest and I dug into something new - an activity kit from Seedling, a New Zealand-based company that's just started hitting the U.S. in a big way after merging with P.S. XO in a move that brought Seedling Founder/CEO Phoebe Hayman together with partners Kara Nortman and Soleil Moon Frye (who I watched regularly as Punky Brewster when that show was new). Their toys and kits tap into something that I've discussed many times over the years - letting kids be kids, and letting them play with what they want and follow their own interests. The kit that Addie and I worked on played right into her heroic side... a chance to design her own superhero cape. While I was there for a little fine-tuning with the scissors and glue, she really didn't need me, as the outcome was all her.

TeeFuryWhat do PREDATOR, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, THE WALKING DEAD, Slimer from GHOSTBUSTERS, THE EVIL DEAD, the Minions of DESPICABLE ME, Jack Skellington from THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, Freddy Krueger from A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, Pennywise the Dancing Clown from Stephen King's IT, the Death Eaters from HARRY POTTER, the guys from SHAUN OF THE DEAD, and The Headless Horseman of SLEEPY HOLLOW have in common? Well, aside from all being pretty cool on their own, all of these icons of the spooky season have become the subjects of limited-edition pop culture mashups from my friends at TeeFury. For a limited time (through 10/17/2014) TeeFury is offering these spook-tacular t-shirts for men, women and children for just $15 each as The Halloween Collection.
