A baby food company wants you to get it on. Indeed, more of that can equal more mouths to feed in the long run, so it makes good business sense to encourage said activity. This is something I know well, as I've often joked to my wife that my entire current career path is completely based on the fact that we got it on at some point back in 2008, the end result being the birth of our first daughter in 2009, and thus, my being dubbed "The Rock Father." This site... these words... they wouldn't exist had it not been for my prowess, probably on a couch or something. Turns out, that's not completely the point of Plum Organics' Do Your Part(ner) campaign. Check this out...

The North American International Toy Fair is officially underway in New York City, and this particular reveal comes to you thanks to my friends at Entertainment Earth! Arriving this August, Hasbro's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Marvel Legends Star-Lord and Ego Action Figures 2-Pack comes to Entertainment Earth first! They'll be getting the first shipment - a full month ahead of mass retail - which means those who pre-order now will get their hands on Chris Pratt and Kurt Russell as father and son before many of their friends. Take a look at these fantastic figures below, both just-revealed in NYC...

#TFNY: First-Look at Spin Master's Rusty Rivets Toys!

Written by

The North American International Toy Fair is underway in New York, and one of the companies rolling out the biggest assortment of new toys is Spin Master. Following their "License of the Year" win for PAW Patrol (a line we absolutely love - see the 2017 preview here), one of their most-anticipated new lines for Fall 2017 comes from another property set in that same "world" - RUSTY RIVETS. The recent debut of the series on Nick Jr. has introduced kids to the "maker movement," a fine companion to much of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) options out there, with kids encouraged to use the materials around them to craft new creations. If your kids are already into PAW Patrol, you'll notice that Rusty, Ruby and friends are in the same scale as Ryder, and these new toys will fit right in. Launching in Fall 2017, here's the Rusty Rivets toys that kids are gonna love!

I'm a firm believer that Spin Master's PAW Patrol is one of the best toy lines of the past decade. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that their line of figures, vehicles and playsets is a future Hall of Famer - a collection that could easily hang with some favorites of my own youth back in the 80s. PAW Patrol is a toy line that the kids of today will be telling their kids about 30 years from now, and backed by a hit series on Nick Jr., the adventure just keeps getting bigger. Last year, I gave you a first-look at where the Pups would be headed, and now I'm back to give you another look into the future, with the full reveal of Spin Master's 2017 PAW Patrol line! Ryder and the crew have conquered land... and air... and now it's time to conquer the sea! Straight outta New York Toy Fair, here's what's next for PAW Patrol!

The return of MADBALLS has been a big hit for the folks at Just Play, and with Series 1 (reviewed here) flying off of store shelves, kids and collectors have been eager to learn more about Series 2. In fact, we just cracked a box of MadBalls Blind Bags on YouTube Live (see it here), and the kids were immediately wondering, "where's the rest?" Well, as New York Toy Fair gets underway, my friends at Just Play have partnered with The Rock Father to give you a first-look at some of the new characters that will be hitting stores this Fall! There's new 3" Foam Balls, plus a new assortment of Blind Packs - including new characters and grotesque Mix-Ups! Details and photo gallery below!

Loot Crate has been serving-up a popular line of curated subscription boxes for quite awhile now, and today comes new out of New York Toy Fair that they're set to start making some of their own toys. Loot Crate's officially licensed collectible toys will be included in select subscription lines as limited edition series as a new way of "delivering an unexpected, one-of-a-kind product for the most passionate collectors and fans."

I've covered toys from both The Bridge Direct and Tech 4 Kids quite a bit here on THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine in the past, and as the North American International Toy Fair gets under way (and I prepare to show you some new offerings from The Bridge Direct - stay tuned), news just rolled in that the two companies are set to merge, with plans to get even bigger in the years to come, thanks to an aggressive plan to continue acquisitions and mergers. The pairing should bode well for consumers, retailers and some fellow toymakers alike.

Disney Junior has another hit on their hands with Mickey and the Roadster Racers, and as the first wave of toys from the series has just hit stores, we're already looking ahead to fall. One item destined to land on many "hot toy" lists is the Mickey and the Roadster Racers: Racing Adventures Mickey from Just Play. Being shown this weekend at the North American International Toy Fair in New York, this new feature plush is ready to race! Check it out...

The crew at Playmates Toys is rolling into the North American International Toy Fair with an expanded portfolio this year, moving well-beyond the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles offerings that they're known for, and into the realm of DreamWorks Television Animation's Voltron Legendary Defender and Cartoon Network's refreshed Ben 10, Look for photos and details soon, but check out an initial overview of what will be shown at the Playmates Toys booth, #2469, at Toy Fair from February 18-21, 2017.

The 2017 Toy Fair is getting underway at the Javits Center in New York right now, and while I'm not there in-person, I've still got tons of new toy news to share! One early reveal comes from the folks at Just Play, and it's a line that's an important one for our girls here at Rock Father HQ: Disney Junior's Doc McStuffins. With the series having been just greenlit for another season, Doc's adventures continue to go in new directions, and that means some great new toys. Over the past few weeks, a new collection of Doc McStuffins Baby toys have been hitting retail, including a Diaper Bag and Get Better Baby Cece, but the pinnacle of the new line is the Doc McStuffins Baby Checkup All-in-One Nursery. A follow-up to the famed (and at one time, extremely hard-to-get Check-up Center), this new playset will hit retail this fall, and is destined to become a sought-after holiday gift, and an early pick for my 2017 Holiday Wish Guide. Take a look!

When it comes to collaboration between filmmaker and composer, the relationship between Steven Spielberg and John Williams is about as solid as it gets. Starting in 1974 with Sugarland Express, Williams has scored all but two of Spielberg's films, most recently providing the music for 2016's The BFG, and already on-deck for 2018's Ready Player One. Over the years, the music from their collaborative efforts has been issued in a couple of different collections, but the ever-expanding library hasn't had an updated "greatest hits" in quite awhile. That changes on March 17, 2017, when Sony Masterworks releases John Williams & Steven Spielberg: The Ultimate Collection. Check out the tracklisting and details below.

Keeping up Defenses for Mid-Winter Adventures...

Written by

THE ROCK FATHER has created this post as part of a #sponsored series with Socialstars and Zicam®; all opinions are that of James Zahn. #ZicamCrowd

Passing the midway mark in February is always a weird thing when it comes to my overall mood. It's that mid-winter time when you can tell that spring is lurking in the distance (regardless what that jerk, Punxsutawney Phil says), and soon things will brighten up. What bothers me most is the gloom that tends to hang high above the bridge between February and March, and as someone that prides himself on a well-manicured lawn and landscape, seeing the grass matted down, brown, dry, and looking like debris-infested straw is just depressing. Everything needs to be cleaned-up, but I just know that there's another blast of snow (or two) still yet to come, as the temperature continues to swing between sub-zero and the fifties as erratic as an off-balance washing machine. One thing that breaks the gloom is an adventure, and whether it be more travel, or simply some big events close to home, one thing that can really put a damper on things is a cold. Yes, a cold... that looming enemy that's always chasing me, and forever seeking a fight. My arsenal must be ready.

In the ramp-up to the 2015 release of JJ Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, one of the biggest events was the first-ever "Force Friday" - the official launch of merchandise tied to the release of the film. I went all-in for the launch, joining Hasbro in posting daily entries from their "Force Friday Countdown" calendar (a new Star Wars toy featured every day for four months - see them here). Last year, when Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story came around, no one really knew what to call the launch, bouncing back-and-forth between "Rogue Friday" and "Force Friday," but today we learn that the latter was incorrect, as Disney & Lucasfilm have officially announced that September 1, 2017 is FORCE FRIDAY II - the official launch of new toys and merch from Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi! Check out the details and your first-look at the new toy packaging below!

Metallica's Parenting/Work Schedule is Pretty... Familiar

Written by

When I first started this site after switching gears some years back (the result of having kids and being dubbed "The Rock Father™") - the original concept involved regular features on "fellow Rock Fathers" as we shared stories about raising kids while juggling work in the entertainment industries. While the site has evolved, I generally don't focus too much on that aspect of things (sans Father's Day time), but once in awhile something comes up that needs to be shared. A perfect example is last night's appearance by METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Turns out that Hardwired... to Self-Destruct was recorded during the day, while the band members' kids were at school. As Lars details his own running between kids in multiple schools and the "Parent Taxi Service," his schedule seems pretty familiar, especially since I'm typing these digital words in the space between dropping off and picking up the youngest from Pre-K. Check out the interview below...
