Written by

This Santa HQ feature is brought to you by HGTV & Macerich Shopping Centers in collaboration with The Rock Father™

Following an inaugural season that brought magic to families from coast-to-coast, HGTV presents Santa HQ again this year! Back for 2018 at The Fashion Outlets of Chicago and a total of 15 Macerich Shopping Centers nationwide, a new tradition continues as an all-new experience aimed at bringing holiday magic to kids and grownups alike with some flourishes that have been upgraded and expanded for the social media age. Santa HQ welcomes families for the traditional photo with Santa (online reservations available, but not required), upping the game with the Elf Academy in which kids can experience the latest in Elf fashion; take an Elfie Selfie; of check out the latest in Elf-Ray Vision - an AR experience in which families can see just what the Elves are up to. Of course, Santa HQ still serves-up an incredible light show with over 10,000 individual lights synchronized to the "Carol of the Bells."

A familiar green villain is currently back in theaters, reimagined in Universal and Illumination's animated picture, THE GRINCH. But that's not the only place to see the tale come to life as Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical brings magic to the stage in select cities for 2018. Madison Square Garden's touring production is the big one, featuring Tony-nominated Gavin Lee (SpongeBob Squarepants: The Musical, Mary Poppins) in the lead role as The Grinch. Kicking off at The Chicago Theatre (November 16-25) before heading off to Boston and New York, my family and I were guests at the opening night performance in Chicago as holiday cheer took hold to a sold-out crowd.

The engines are fired-up and it is officially the holiday shopping season! On November 20, Amazon will drop the curtain on Pete the Cat: A Groovy Kind of Christmas - an all-new animated holiday special (see the trailer here). Among the highlights are some new music by Dave Matthews and Jason Mraz, and today we've got your first-listen to a new song from the latter. "Givingest Time of the Year" is a new song from Pete the Cat and Jason Mraz, and you can check it out for a fresh bit of holiday cheer below!

Walk Off The Earth, the indie-pop band known for their chart topping originals and unique covers of current hits, have released the first single from their upcoming EP, Subscribe To The Holidays, “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” performed by band members Sarah Blackwood and Gianni Luminati’s five year old son, Giorgio Michaels. Subscribe To The Holidays includes six holiday classics, re-imagined in Walk Off The Earth’s signature style.

Pete The Cat has become a hit for Amazon, and now it's getting a dose of holiday cheer. Pete The Cat: A Very Groovy Christmas features all-new Christmas music from Dave Matthews and Jason Mraz, among others. Based on the popular book series, Pete The Cat: A Very Groovy Christmas features the voices of Elvis Costello, Diana Krall, Jessica Biel, and Jacob Tremblay, and will begin streaming on November 20 in the U.S. and UK. Check out the trailer below...

There's a few artists whose concert films I always pick up, and Brian Setzer is one of those. While he's had several DVD and Blu-ray releases over the years, only a a handful have focused on The Brian Setzer Orchestra, and there hasn't been a holiday release since 2005's Christmas Extravaganza. That changes this season with the release of Christmas Rocks! Live, coming to Blu-ray on November 9, 2018 via Surfdog Records. On November 9, Illumination and Universal Pictures present The Grinch, based on Dr. Seuss’ beloved holiday classic. The timeless tale of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit, if The Grinch is being reimagined, so should the soundtrack. Today I received the full details on The Rock Father™-approved tracklisting for the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for The Grinch - an album featuring some classic tracks from Run-DMC and The Brian Setzer Orchestra alongside some new cuts as well. One of those tracks is a complete re-working of "You're a Mean One, Mr Grinch" by composer Danny Elfman and Tyler, the Creator. Maybe it's just the state of the world right now, but it seems that we could use a little "holiday cheer," and it does seem like 2018 is bringing an unusually large (and welcome) amount of new holiday movies. One big surprise is The Christmas Chronicles, coming to Netflix on November 22 (perfect timing to watch with family over the Thanksgiving week) and starring Kurt Russell as Santa Claus. The story follows a brother and sister who set out to capture Santa on video and wind up getting into an adventure. Directed by Clay Kaytis (The Angry Birds Movie) and written by Matt Lieberman (2019's Addams Family), The Christmas Chronicles was produced by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter). Check out the first teaser below...

Something about the 2018 holiday season is already feeling more urgent. It's almost as if its surrounding us earlier, and that it will be over just as quickly as it begins. With that, the United States Postal Service has just unveiled their holiday shipping deadlines. These are important for getting things to where they need to be by December 25, but of course they're never a guarantee. Check out the full list below...

The last three months of the year are the best three month of the year, and as wee stare down the coming end of the Halloween season on October 31st, the holiday season fires-up on November 1st when it's 100% acceptable to start listening to Christmas music. As such, Freeform is getting into the spirit early this year, priming the holiday pump with a new event called Kickoff To Christmas - a full month of holiday fun that will lead into their annual 25 Days of Christmas in December. Kickoff to Christmas will also include the premiere of the Freeform original film The Truth About Christmas, from MarVista Entertainment, airing SUNDAY, NOV. 25 at 9:00-11:00 p.m. EST/PST.
