The Rock Father is a 2014 PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) BloggerMy friends at PBS KIDS continue making their brand of entertainment available everywhere through regular App releases, and the latest comes from the world of CYBERCHASE. The new CyberChase Shape Quest App for iOS combines games, puzzles and 3D augmented reality to challenge kids ages 6-9 to use geometry and spatial reasoning to hone their problem solving skills. The Free App is available now from (my affiliate), iTunes.

PBS KIDS VIPEven before becoming a PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) Blogger in 2013, the entertaining and educational programming offered by PBS KIDS was already a daily staple here in our home. From CAILLOU to CURIOUS GEORGE, DINOSAUR TRAIN to SESAME STREET, there's a lot of great shows and specials that are now available to view anytime on DVD. They're great gifts, and perfect stocking stuffers, and that lands them firmly in my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER...

Back to School. I do believe that this is the very first Back to School post that I've ever done on The Rock Father. While we didn't have a real "break" since we kept her in activities this summer at the same place... with the same teachers... and mostly the same class... our oldest will be Back to Preschool this Fall, and that got me thinking about one of the coolest aspects of the season: New supplies. PBS KIDS VIPAs many of you know, I'm one of the 2013 PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) Ambassadors, so it's always my pleasure to spread the word on some great educational entertainment that the folks at PBS have been cooking up. Today comes word that PBS Distribution will be releasing four, all-new DVDs this July that will help educate kids on bullying (ARTHUR Stands Up To Bullying), star gazing (DINOSAUR TRAIN: Nature Trackers), making healthy treat decisions (SUPER WHY! Hansel and Gretel: A Healthy Adventure), and what it means to be a "big kid" (CAILLOU: Big Kid Caillou). The Rock Father has full details on all four titles below...

PBS KIDS VIPMy oldest daughter just wrapped preschool for the season, and while I do have her enrolled in a Day Camp a couple of days a week throughout the summer, I - like many parents - want to make sure that learning doesn't take a break just because school's out. To help combat the summer learning slump (a genuine issue that the National Summer Learning Association has data on), my friends at PBS KIDS have come up with a variety of FREE RESOURCES for kids and parents, including 10 weeks of themed programming, printable activities, and they've developed some great partnerships to keep learning fun and productive all summer long.
