The power of SLIME has been compelling kids for the past few years, and what I thought might be a passing fad has shown no signs of letting up - especially here at Rock Father HQ. In our house it's 9-year-old Addie who holds the position of resident slime enthusiast and chemist, and because of that she's been asking for months if she could create her own "Slime Channel" on YouTube. Since I'm not a big fan of many elements of the YouTube culture (despite being a creator on the platform), I said she could have a "show" on my channel: Addie's Slime Videos. But I actually launched it on Facebook first (where it's actually done better), and this week the initial episode went live. For its debut, Addie cracks into a box of Super Cool Slime from the folks at Kangaroo Manufacturing - an assortment of ready-mixed slimes that I pegged as potential stocking stuffers for my 2018 Holiday Wish Guide™. Check this out!
As we roll toward the end of an unusually challenging year for many, there's some bright spots to be seen, one of which is shining in California tonight. MGA Entertainment and the Marine Toys for Tots program have been working together in order to brighten the holidays for some of the many children whose families were affected by the devastating wildfires that ravaged parts of both Northern and Southern California last month. The team at MGA will be providing more than $5M in new toys that are expected to bring joy to an estimated 300,000 kids in California and in other parts of the country where disaster has struck.

We're in the home stretch of the 2018 holiday season, and that means that gift-givers will soon be hitting the stores in a frenzy. I've long-held that movies are not only the perfect gift - but they're truly the perfect stocking stuffer. They just tend to slip right into the stockings so snuggly - as if a Blu-ray package was intentionally-sized to fit within the traditional staple of seasonal gift holders. But what to get, especially for the action-loving guys on your list this season? Two top choices are both Holiday Wish Guide™ Picks here at The Rock Father™ Magazine: Sony Pictures Venom and Equalizer 2, both available at Walmart!
We're just a couple weeks out from Christmas as I write this, and as usual there's some surprising late-season entries hitting stores that could be holiday hits. I'm talking about toys and games, of course - and they're not so much "late" as they are early previews of new things yet to come. From Mattel comes news that they've partnered with Daymond John, Co-Star and Investor on ABC's Shark Tank, to launch a new game: Silicon Valley Startups. With hilarity in mind, this new card game pits "Entrepreneurs" against each other to pitch hysterical startup ideas to "Investors." With all pitch ideas decided through random card draws, players must use their best improvisation skills to win the game. The game is available now at Target (affiliate) with a national retail rollout planned for 2019.
This fall, Mattel's iconic Barbie became the star of an all-new mobile app based on the popular Netflix series, Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse. From Budge Studios, Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures brings the toys and characters to life in new ways. Kids can create their own Dreamhouse, get to know Barbie's friends, join a band (I still have a lot of love for Barbie and the Rockers), take care of the pets and so much more. And now there's a big holiday update that features tree decorating, gift wrapping, holiday decorating and even baking (gingerbread, anyone?). Available for download on iOS and Google Play, Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures is a lot of fun, and in the spirit of the season, Mattel & Budge have teamed-up with The Rock Father™ for a little reader giveaway for a fun Barbie prize pack that includes a Barbie Water Play Doll and Barbie Scooter!
