Todd Glass - TODD GLASS TALKS ABOUT STUFF (Comedy Review)

On TODD GLASS TALKS ABOUT STUFF (out this Tuesday on New Wave Dynamics), Todd Glass does indeed, talk about stuff. The 12-track collection of observational comedy is right on the mark - and Glass' spends it ripping into daily stupidity in a good way. From people who love to tell you who you look like (I get that ALL THE TIME) to the idiots that show up to a dinner party with unprepared food, it feels as if you're riding with Glass in a car while discussing the assholes around you.

THE LONELY ISLAND - THE WACK ALBUM (Comedy Review)

wackalbumOn their third full-length outing, Andy Samberg, Akiva Shaffer, and Jorma Taccone - collectively known as THE LONELY ISLAND - break out the jams for a rap album that's hardly wack, despite being called THE WACK ALBUM. As a follow-up to their previous albums, 2009's INCREDIBAD and 2011's TURTLENECK & CHAIN (both of which I own) THE WACK ALBUM is just as good (if not better in places) on a comedic front, but it opens up a weird situation in which THE LONELY ISLAND almost sounds too legit. While being a send-up of current hip-hop, THE WACK ALBUM is easily on-par production-wise with the best of who they're lovingly taking shots at, and the delivery is just so serious that you could picture these guys busting out some non-funny rhymes at some point in the near future.

ANTHONY JESELNIK - "Caligula" (Comedy Review)

caligulaboxI bet you weren't aware that NickMom was blatantly copying The Rock Father when they decided to slide some NSFW standup comedy into the programming mix on Nick Jr. Actually, I did it the smart way - keeping the "Comedy For Grownups" hidden just out of sight from the family-friendly goodness of my main site, but easily within reach of parents who want to be entertained with all of the "offensive" comedy they can handle. NickMom just dropped their naughty bits directly in front of families expecting to see DORA THE EXPLORER and YO GABBA GABBA.  Doing what I do, I can cover the comedic genius of ANTHONY JESELNIK without people starting petitions and jumping down my throat for "corrupting the children." With his new album, CALIGULA out this week on Comedy Central Records (I reviewed his 2010 release, SHAKESPEARE here), it's time to drop some more virtual ink on the one guy who can open a show with a "rape" joke and have it be ok.

Jimmy Fallon - BLOW YOUR PANTS OFF (Comedy Review)

It seems like a lifetime ago that JIMMY FALLON released his first comedy album, THE BATHROOM WALL. Actually, it's been a decade since I purchased that album (I still have it), and now Fallon is finally getting around to album number two. The difference this time around is that 2012 Fallon is the host of LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON, a successful late night television program that you've probably watched on occasion. Last time, 2002 Fallon was a Saturday Night Live cast member known for breaking out the acoustic guitar for some musical humor. Instead of prepping an album's worth of new studio tracks, BLOW YOUR PANTS OFF is musical comedy taken directly from his namesake show. Does it deliver? That depends on how much you dig the source material.

Tenacious D - RIZE OF THE FENIX (Comedy Album Review)

It's been over a decade since TENACIOUS D first rocked speakers with their phenomenal debut album, and in that time the duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass have witnessed their comedic musical offspring take a career path much like the bands they've been known to parody. The epic first album followed by a sophomore slump, the backlash, years of inactivity, and finally the inevitable rise from the ashes. It would be pretty funny if this was actually all by design. Ha Ha - the joke's on you, rock critics and music industry!
