It's President's Day, and aside from being a day off school, possibly work, and a time to get great, limited-time savings on electronics, furniture and automobile purchases, it's also a day to remember the heritage of our Nation - The United States of America. One of my favorite cities has long-been Washington, D.C., and for their forthcoming album, ARE YOU LISTENING? Seattle kindie rockers, THE NOT-ITS! wrote a song about it. For this week only, you can grab a FREE DOWNLOAD of "Washington D.C." from the band's Soundcloud page. Stream it below...

Watch & Listen: THE NOT-ITS! "Dance With Me"

Seattle's THE NOT-ITS! have long-been one of our favorite kindie rock bands here at Rock Father HQ, and as part of The Kindiependent Collective alongside CASPAR BABYPANTS, RECESS MONKEY, THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, THE HARMONICA POCKET and others, THE NOT-ITS! have been leading the charge for legit family-friendly rock. On February 19th, the band will release their sixth full-length album, with ARE YOU LISTENING? hitting the streets with 10 all-new jams. This week, the first music video from the album has arrived, a hand-animated piece by Chris Looney called "Dance With Me." Check it out...

"We really wanted the story to stand alone - not to rely on the music, or simply feel like a music video," explains RECESS MONKEY Bassist/Vocalist Jack Forman about "Lighter Than Air," which follows "Penguinese" as the latest video from their forthcoming new album, HOT AIR. Forman, who co-wrote the single with bandmates Drew Holloway (Guitar/Vocals) and Korum Bischoff (Drums) also took the reigns on animation and editing for the video, which we're debuting today here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine. The clip will be included when the album hits the streets on June 16 as a CD/DVD Combo.  "While the songs inspired story elements to some degree, we really treated them more like underscoring," he adds, noting that "the big challenge was to create something that was both 'peppy' but also celebrated meandering - [since] so much of the progression is what happens when Andrew and the Penguin are aimless and open to making discoveries." Check out the video below!

Just in time for World Penguin Day (April 25), Seattle's prolific purveyors of perfectly pop! Kindie rock are serving-up "Penguinese." Yes, RECESS MONKEY have returned, and they'll be unleashing their latest album, HOT AIR (pre-order on Amazon) on June 16, 2015. In the meantime, "Penguinese" is the funky new single (available on iTunes) that focuses on a “new kid in school" -- a penguin searching for acceptance. Band leader Jack Forman (of SiriusXM's Kids Place Live) created the produced the 3D animation-live action video, which features vocalist/guitarist Drew Holloway and a penguin. Take a peek, and read-on for the tracklisting and cover art for HOT AIR, which includes something for the STAR WARS fans...

On July 15, one of the best Kindie Rock albums of the year will hit the streets when Seattle's THE NOT-ITS! unleash RAISE YOUR HAND. Part of Seattle's "Kindiependent Collective," alongside RECESS MONKEY, THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, THE HARMONICA POCKET, CASPAR BABYPANTS (Chris from PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA), BRIAN VOGAN & HIS GOOD BUDDIES, and JOHNNY BREGAR, THE NOT-ITS! features the former singer of Sub Pop's VELOCITY GIRL and drummer of HARVEY DANGER - facts I always point out, just in-case you've not yet heard of THE NOT-ITS!, which, if you read this site often (as you should) you have. Check out their new music video for "Haircut," right here on THE ROCK FATHER, and when you're done, be sure to check out my recent interview with guitarist Danny Adamson.

When I was interviewing fellow "Rock Fathers" for my Father's Day series this year, I discovered that LEGO is a major hobby for these musically-inclined Dads and their kids. One band, RECESS MONKEY (read their feature here) is so into LEGO that they've recorded an entire ode to the famous bricks, and the music video for "Brick by Brick" has been released today - conveniently-timed to the Blu-ray and DVD release of THE LEGO MOVIE (out now from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment). Or was it conveniently-timed with the release of the excellent new RECESS MONKEY album, WIRED, which also hit stores today? It's a brick-based conspiracy! Watch the new video below... and answer this question: What would happen if Drew Holloway borrowed an X-Wing Fighter from LEGO Luke Skywalker and flew into a galaxy far, far away? Yep, there's STAR WARS in here...
