When I first started this site after switching gears some years back (the result of having kids and being dubbed "The Rock Father™") - the original concept involved regular features on "fellow Rock Fathers" as we shared stories about raising kids while juggling work in the entertainment industries. While the site has evolved, I generally don't focus too much on that aspect of things (sans Father's Day time), but once in awhile something comes up that needs to be shared. A perfect example is last night's appearance by METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Turns out that Hardwired... to Self-Destruct was recorded during the day, while the band members' kids were at school. As Lars details his own running between kids in multiple schools and the "Parent Taxi Service," his schedule seems pretty familiar, especially since I'm typing these digital words in the space between dropping off and picking up the youngest from Pre-K. Check out the interview below...

On May 27th, Metal Blade Records will release SONGS FROM THE GARAGE (pre-order), the first album by comedian JIM BREUER and his backing band, THE LOUD & ROWDY. Earlier today, a new music video for "Thrash" hit my inbox, and essentially it's what happens here at my house when my wife takes The Rock Daughters™ on an adventure that leaves me with a few hours of free time... the exception being that I crank the metal sans headphones. Check this out... I'm digging it!

The journey of Fatherhood is different for everyone - an experience of learning and growth for each traveler. Every father has a story, and since launching this website, I've heard many tales spun by fellow "Rock Fathers" from all walks of life. Today comes the lyric video for "Sun" from MILTON J and the LEFTOVERS, a very DIY, and almost "handmade" love letter to Milton's boy, set to a track from their new album, VAIN WISDOM (iTunes | Amazon).

Becoming a parent changes you - and although it's cliche to say that, it's completely true. I'm an example of that, and no matter what your age (I was almost 33 when we had Addie), there's "growing up" involved when it happens for the first time. While I became "The Rock Father" in 2009, this site wasn't here yet, and although everything may have appeared just perfect - the first year was actually pretty hard from an emotional standpoint and some changes in lifestyle and scheduling had to happen. MACKLEMORE is experiencing some of that right now, his daughter born on May 29th - just over two months ago. Today he and Ryan Lewis released a new single as a free download - a single that is for Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty - but also being offered to all of us - music and words that will most certainly resonate with parents. It comes with a note (available here), and the total package has really moved me - his voice sharing wisdom with his little girl, but also trying to find balance between the work he has to do to support his family. Listen to MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS - "Growing Up (Sloane's Song)" featuring ED SHEERAN below...

It's a brief clip, but if you've ever wondered what kind of insight into parenting and fatherhood could be offered by METALLICA frontman and father of three, JAMES HETFIELD, today is your day. In Part 4 of their "Up-Close with James Hetfield" video series, the folks at Road Recovery get a few words from James about finding the right balance in how he handles his children, and how "being in the middle" could be the hardest place of all...

Andrew W.K. and Jack Black are certified Rock Fathers, so when news rolled in that J.B. was appearing on the debut episode of Andrew's new webseries MEET ME AT THE RECK, I had to post it. Minecraft fans (that's one trend I can't get into) might also recognize Stampy Longhead, who joins this Tenacious duo for an adventure. MEET ME AT THE RECK is a family-friendly DIY series from Disney's Maker Studios. Check out episode 1 below...
