A press release hit my inbox today that had me genuinely excited. My wife and I have shared our love of superheroes with our daughters since their birth, and thus I've shared their own growing love of superheroes with readers of this very website -- so the news of DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. and Mattel teaming up for what they're calling "A New Superhero Universe Designed Just For Girls" really hit the spot. DC SUPER HERO GIRLS debuts this Fall, bringing with it "an immersive digital experience, original digital content and digital publishing—providing opportunities for girls to interact with characters, learn about the storylines, and engage in customizable play." In 2016 we will see toys (including  "Mattel's first Action Figures for Girls"), TV specials, movies, apparel, books and more, all with the goal of "building character and confidence, and empowering girls to discover their true potential." We're in, and if you follow my social profiles for THE ROCK FATHER, then you already know why. It was just last Friday that we had "Breakfast With the Superheroes" here with Supergirl and Wonder Woman, but that's happened before...

"When a mysterious and powerful vortex suddenly appears in various LEGO worlds, different characters from DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings and The LEGO Movie are swept away. To save their friends, Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle bravely jump into the vortex and quickly find themselves fighting to save all of LEGO humanity."

That's the basic gist of LEGO DIMENSIONS (out September 27), a new offering from LEGO and Warner Bros. that brings a brick-based spin on the toys-meet-games genre that was pioneered by SKYLANDERS and expanded upon by DISNEY INFINITY. Today's official announcement of LEGO Dimensions ends days of speculation fueled by LEGO's #BreakTheRules social media campaign that had fans guessing... and in many cases, going down the wrong rabbit hole. Check out the teaser starring COMMUNITY's Joel McHale...

Why did I not think of this a few years ago? I mean, I was actually on the set of BATMAN BEGINS back in 2004 and stuck my head inside the Tumbler for a few... but that was in my pre-parenting days, and the thought of crafting a baby stroller based upon Christopher Nolan's vision of The Batmobile didn't even cross my mind. But for one lucky Bat-fan, his little Caped Crusader is riding in-style thanks to the Hollywood FX crew behind SUPER-FAN BUILDS. On this week's show, they've taken an Evenflo car seat and surrounded it by all the Tumbler goodness that one would need for fighting thugs in Lil' Gotham. Check this out...

The Rock Father is a 2014 BuyCostumes.com #OrangeTuesday Halloween Ambassador.

Some say that "Life is Better in Costume," and those who adhere to that mantra are, indeed, correct.  It's fun to play dress-up, and fostering imaginative play with my girls is something that I've spoken of often here on THE ROCK FATHER. But you don't have to be a kid to play dress-up, and the legions of cosplayers and casual fans that gear-up for comic-cons and special events year-round are a testament to that. And, so what if Halloween is still two weeks away? There's nothing that says a grown man can't hit the town dressed as Batman (just ask Ben Affleck, who's been roaming Detroit along with Henry Cavill shooting BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE), to the surprise, delight, and in some cases, confusion of those whom he may encounter. That's why this month, THE BATROCKFATHER BEGINS RISES.

Since at least 2008, I've been writing about the General Mills Monster Cereals every Fall, and since 2011 or so, I've done so right here on THE ROCK FATHER. Last year, General Mills finally caved in and took my advice, not only issuing COUNT CHOCULA, FRANKEN BERRY and BOO BERRY in Retro boxes exclusive to TARGET stores (I have a set of empty boxes here in my office), but they also brought FRUTE BRUTE and YUMMY MUMMY back from the dead. For 2014, the news comes a bit earlier than usual (this post's been on my "to-do list" since last week), but the General Mills Monsters are back - bringing back the core trio, but sadly the Mummy and the Brute are staying in the Crypt again this year. This year's exciting news is that General Mills has finally dumped the embarrassing CGI depictions of the characters that have been featured on the mass-market boxes for a few years, instead bringing forth new versions crafted by the skilled team at DC Comics. Let's take a look...

It's almost 3am here at Rock Father Mobile HQ, which tonight is a hotel room in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania - and while the girls are all asleep behind me, I can't seem to rest tonight, so I'm continuing to catch up. Back on Monday, my friend Rus posted this video on my Facebook page along with a note that it's in my "sweet spot" - and he's right... BATMAN + METAL = "BATMETAL." What we have here is a viral clip that's amassed nearly 800K views by featuring original animation of BATMAN, RED HOOD, ROBIN and NIGHTWING performing a DETHKLOK song called "Face Fisted" from METALOCALYPSE as the CHILDREN OF BATMAN (think CHILDREN OF BODOM). I can dig it, can you?
