If you're reading this, it is my duty to make it known that you are reading a historic blog. Despite it being a common feature throughout the vast realm of cyberspace, I have never done a "Throwback Thursday." This is my first... and it's about that time when I went to PRISON. Actually, if we're being honest, I should admit that I've been to prison more than once.
Having only been a parent for just over four years, it's weird to already feel nostalgic about something that happened just a few years ago - October 3, 2010. On that day, we'd taken Addie (then just over a year old) to her first "Pumpkin Patch" experience, at a small place in Lake Villa, Illinois, called Susanna Farms. For Day 13 of 31 Days of Halloween 2013, I'm featuring the family-owned farm in Chicago's Far Northern Suburbs through the eyes of a Dad who recently returned with both of his daughters... Addie (now 4), and Finn (1). While this wasn't Little Finley's first Pumpkin Patch (we did that last year), it was the first time that both girls were big enough to roam the fields together... and the first time that we went with Grandma.
Here we are, a week into 31 Days of Halloween here on The Rock Father, and today we've got something special... a pumpkin-y premiere from Chicago's finest purveyors of Kindie Punk Rock, THE BOOGERS. Streaming below is "I'm a Jack-O-Lantern," a brand-new Halloween anthem for 2013, that makes the perfect soundtrack for your pumpkin-carving this month. Ghosts... Ghouls... Witches... they'll run a mile when they see the Jack-O-Lantern's scary smile...
If you ever browse the off-the-mainpage "For Grownups" section of The Rock Father, you might've already seen me proclaim my allegiance for Sweden's GHOST (now known in the U.S. as "GHOST B.C." for "legal reasons) in recent months. They're hardly what I'd call "family friendly," which is why they'd normally not be featured right here on the mainpage... but we're in the midst of the Halloween season, and certain bands just fit right in. GHOST is one of them, and today they land at Day 6 on The Rock Father's 31 Days of Halloween 2013... not for their music, but for their hamburger. A spooky treat for Chicagoans to eat?
Earlier tonight, THE OFFICIAL BLUES BROTHERS REVUE kicked-off it's 2013/2014 Tour with a show in Danville, Kentucky. It should've started here in Illinois, because it's The Blues Brothers... Joilet Jake and Elwood Blues... a duo synonymous with Chicago! But, it's ok that they started out in the south this time around, because it's a good place to brush up in case they find themselves playing another BOB'S COUNTRY BUNKER gig somewhere down the road.
I am a Feld Family Ambassador, and this post is brought to you as part of that relationship. All opinions are my own.
Disney On Ice is officially a family tradition. Back in January, I posted some thoughts about taking our oldest daughter, Addie, to see Disney On Ice for the very first time - a production of Rockin' Ever After at the Allstate Arena. Fast-forward nine months, and the crew from Feld Entertainment is back in Chicago with Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic at the United Center... directly across the street from the site of the old Chicago Stadium... the same place that I first saw Disney On Ice back in 1981. This time around was another first... Little Finley, at only 15-months-old, would get her first Disney On Ice experience.
