Chicago friends: If you're looking for a rootin' tootin', yet rockin' good time with your little ones this weekend, it might be a prime time to pay a visit to Miss Jamie from the Farm. The Chicago-based performer will be doing three shows in and around the city to celebrate the release of her debut album, MISS JAMIE'S FARM (available now on Amazon, iTunes, and CD Baby).
For my local friends here near Rock Father HQ in Chicagoland, the folks at Feld Entertainment (I'm working with US Family Guide as a Feld Family Ambassador) are bringing Disney on Ice presents Let's Celebrate! to town later this month. The show will take place at Allstate Arena in Rosemont Jan 22 - Jan 26 & United Center in Chicago Jan 29 - Feb 9. I've got all the details, along with discount ticket info for you below...
Where did 2013 go? People have long said that the years seem to pass faster as you get older, but 2013... this was something different. Never before has a year been as big a blur as this one. Maybe it's the fact that this is the year that Little Finley went mobile (started walking), creating a situation in which I'm chasing two kids around all day instead of just one. Perhaps its all the adventures we've been having, but honestly, I just don't know why it seems to have flown by so fast. So here we are, New Year's Eve... the last day of 2013, and we're standing on the cusp of 2014. Whatever you choose to do tonight, rock is needed, and thanks to my kindie punk rock friends, THE BOOGERS, you have a new track to add to your New Year's Eve playlist. Enjoy THE BOOGERS' rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" below, and download it if you'd like. Happy New Year!
My friends at the Chicago Botanic Garden are on the verge of a major milestone. For the first time in their 41-year history, they may reach 1 Million Visitors for the year. They're so close, that in order to give it a bump, they're offering $10 parking through December 31 (normally $25), and admission is free as always. There's a lot of winter goodness to explore.
It was sort of surreal, but on a Friday night back in July, I stood inside American Girl Place on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, sipping champagne with other grownups, sans our children. It was a baby shower of sorts to celebrate the relaunch of American Girl's Bitty Baby line (I've blogged about it before), and the one thing I kept thinking the whole night was "I wish that Addie was here with me right now." Bitty Baby arrived here at Rock Father HQ for Addie's birthday in August, and ever since has been a regular companion. Just last week, we took Addie and her little sister to American Girl Place for the very first time.
Chicago's own LAURA DOHERTY has announced a February 11, 2014 release date for her third album, IN A HEARTBEAT. Inspired by the Hudson Valley region of New York where she grew up, along with her longtime home in The Windy City, the 13-song set of folk-pop is accented by elements of jazz and blues, and features a guest appearance from WILCO drummer Glen Kotche on the appropriately-titled, "Drum Kit."
