I've said this many times, but allow me to say this again... when it comes to music festivals, there is currently only one that maintains my loyalty: Chicago's RIOT FEST. While there's many festival offerings here in Illinois and beyond, RIOT FEST is the one that folks should be paying attention to - a festival that's grown from a days-long event scattered through multiple venues in Chicago, into the three-day behemoth known as the RIOT FEST & CARNIVAL. But there's also Denver, too - with the RIOT FEST & RODEO, and for 2016 the first wave of announcements is absolutely stellar... and this is just the first wave! Check out the announcements below, along with some official "Rock Father Picks" on what I'll most be looking forward to seeing this year...

The AquabatsAfter The Hub Network began it's slow disintegration earlier this year (disclosure: I was one of their "Hub Club" writers for about five minutes), one of the major signs that the end was near was their unceremonious non-cancelling cancellation of THE AQUABATS! SUPER SHOW!, almost at the same time in which The Aquabats! received five Daytime Emmy nominations, of which they'd win one. If I understand it correctly, they essentially gave the show back to The Aquabats!, leaving them free to take it to another network or service. While Netflix is the obvious choice for new episodes (and hey, I write for the Netflix #StreamTeam now!), the first season disappeared from the streaming giant on December 15th, but in a "Christmas miracle" of sorts, the entire run of the show, including the "lost" Season 2 and "3" (special) episodes have appeared on both Amazon Instant and iTunes. Why is this so important, you ask? Well, as a gift to all of you, The Aquabats! have uploaded the entire Christmas! With The Aquabats! special to YouTube, and it can be viewed now, right here on THE ROCK FATHER. Personally, I've been waiting nearly a year to see this one again...

Aquabats Turn 20It could be said that last night, I officially introduced my daughter to the rock and roll lifestyle. We took a trip into the big city, stayed out late on a school night, and she got ice cream at 10pm. We were living dangerously, and it was all because last night was Addie's first real concert - her first big ROCK show. And what a night it was... at age 4½, my little girl got her first "special pass," met the band, and can now say that she's been on stage at one of Chicago's finest venues, The House of Blues. THE AQUABATS! kicked-off their 20th Anniversary Tour in fine fashion, and being there with my little girl made for one unforgettable night.

On May 13, Minneapolis duo KOO KOO KANGA ROO will serve up a new slice of family-friendly sonic enjoyment when WHOOPTY WHOOP hits the streets via the Fun Fun Records imprint of Mike Park's Asian Man Records - pretty appropriate since Koo Koo Kanga Roo is all about FUN! Check out the cover art and tracklisting, along with the hot and fresh video for the first single, "Fanny Pack," below.

The folks at The Hub are kicking off 2014 in-style with new episodes of their original series' THE AQUABATS! SUPER SHOW!, LITTLEST PET SHOP, SABRINA: SECRETS OF A TEENAGE WITCH, and MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC. They've provided The Rock Father with details on all the new episodes, which I'm sharing with you below. All times listed are Eastern, and additional details can be found over at HubWorld.com.

After a short run of Season Two episodes this past summer, THE AQUABATS! SUPER SHOW! will return to The Hub for the Holiday Season, with the first of three specials, CHRISTMAS WITH THE AQUABATS, set to debut on December 21. News just hit Rock Father HQ this afternoon, and I've got details on all three new Aquabats specials below. Fingers crossed that they bust out their awesome cover of Lindsey Buckingham's "Holiday Road" that I like so much.
