Yesterday in Los Angeles, actress, author, neuroscientist and mom, Mayim Bialik (who I still think of as "Blossom") played host to the first-ever Fisher-Price Think-a-Thon, an event aimed to inspire little learners to be big thinkers. The event showcased toys from the new Fisher-Price Think & Learn line which are designed to teach young learners 21st century skills they'll need to be successful in the future. Inspired by "hackathons" where coders meet to do collaborative computer programming, preschoolers at the Fisher-Price Think-a-Thon came together to get the most out of playtime. The children participated in skill-building play activities with Think & Learn toys, including a Code-a-pillar (a top pick in THE ROCK FATHER's 2016 Holiday Wish Guide - featured hereObstacle Course, Smart Scan Color Chameleon Color Bingo, and Smart Scan Word Dash Hide & Seek.

I've been meaning to write a blog about the classic, 1970s FISHER-PRICE Record Player, but this isn't why: A guy has come up with a creative way to mill brand-new records for the iconic toy. The story hit Gizmodo this evening and linked to the original instructions on how to pull this off.

This past Friday, the little one and I took a little road trip to Wilmot, Wisconsin. About 30 minutes from Rock Father HQ in Illinois, Wilmot is home to more than a 'Mountain,' but also a warehouse for AMERICAN GIRL, and THE MATTEL TOY STORE. I'd found the latter by accident last year while heading up to Twin Lakes for a rock show. After coming back home, I hit Google to find out just what exactly I'd seen out there on that dark, Fall night. While turning a corner, I spotted a plain white sign that read 'The Mattel Toy Store.' Sure enough, the toy maker operates their own chain of stand-alone stores in special locations around the country. A few months ago, we made the trip for the first time. On Friday, we went back.

Released last year through Fisher-Price Music, THE MERRY GOES 'ROUND is the second full-length set of kids music from singer/songwriter JEWEL. Touted as an album ''fondly made to be enjoyed by adults and children alike,'' Jewel offers up a 16-track assortment of original songs and old favorites that find the songstress expanding upon her signature folk-pop stylings with a heavy dash of Southern flavor.

Fisher-Price is already a popular name here in The Rock Father™ house, so when the UPS man showed up here late one evening last week with a brown box bearing the F-P name, I'm pretty sure that the little one knew immediately that it was for her. Before she even knew what was inside, she was giving the box a hug, so that was a pretty good indicator. What was inside was the new Fisher-Price Little People Zoo Talkers Animal Sounds Zoo.
