Rock Father Adventure: The Bristol Renaissance Faire

With summer winding to a close, it was time for another family adventure - this one just a short drive north, across the border and into Wisconsin. For me, this was my second visit to The Bristol Renaissance Faire (the first was last year), while it was round three for Addie and my wife, and the first for new baby, Finley. Accompanied by "Auntie Jill," we crossed into Bristol and took a step back in time to the year 1574.

As the sign states, this is a place "Where Fantasy Rules," and thats interesting for me since despite my past supernatural creative endeavors, I've never been a huge participant in "fantasy"-based entertainment. Much to my wife's dismay, I've never read Harry Potter ('seen some of the movies), and much to the horror of some other friends, I've never read Tolkien, either (though I do have The Lord of the Rings Trilogy on DVD). My point? You don't have to be hardcore to enjoy the Ren Faire. But for us, it's all about an adventure for the little ones.

Pony Rides... the Butterfly ride... the Dreadnought Pirate Ship... the Petting Zoo... all the things that Addie wants to see again and again.

And Addie's favorite? A visit with The Unicorn:

Kids stuff aside for a minute, the Bristol Renaissance Faire is also pretty "metal," and there's a video that I found online which documents that fully. Axe throwing? Beer Drinking? A visit from Doctor Who? Watch the epic majesty of windmill headbanging to the soothing sounds of Viking Metallers AMON AMARTH below!

My wife says she'll be dressing the part next year, possibly in a corset - and that she'll be "my wench." I think I may dress as Marty McFly and drive a DeLorean into the Faire.

The Bristol Renaissance Faire is only open for one more weekend for the 2012 season. Check out http://www.renfair.com/bristol for more details.
